ABOUT MELODI

Attorney Melodi R. Hayes graduated from the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama in 1987 receiving a Juris Doctor. She worked in general practice in Winston-Salem, NC for her first years after completing law school, and subsequently worked for the District Attorney’s office in Bladen, Brunswick and Columbus counties for several years after leaving Winston-Salem. In 1994, Ms. Hayes moved to Wilmington, NC where she began her solo practice in the family law area.

Prior to receiving her J.D., Ms. Hayes received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro in 1977 and practiced critical care nursing for several years in academic medical centers in Chapel Hill, NC, Nashville, TN, Winston Salem, NC, Atlanta, GA, Birmingham, AL, and St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. She has consistently maintained a current nursing license, and remains current to date.

Ms. Hayes says there is a natural crossover from nursing to family law because in both cases, families are dealing with sometimes traumatic events that leave their lives spiraling out of control. At the Law Office of Melodi R. Hayes, each client’s needs are addressed as they are guided through every step of the legal process until all issues are resolved. Call the Law Office of Melodi R. A temporary support claim brought by a dependent spouse who does not have the financial means to meet their reasonable financial needs, and the supporting spouse has the ability to meet these reasonable financial needs.

uncontested divorce

North Carolina is a “no-fault” state therefore, an absolute divorce can be granted to either the husband or wife after they have lived separate and apart from each other for at least one year prior to filing of the divorce action. (* Any alimony or property distribution claim must be made prior to granting of the divorce or the right to make these claims is forever barred.)

cHILD CUSTODY

Any parent, relative, agency, institution, or other person claiming the right to custody of a minor child may file an action in Court. Custody, through a Court action, is awarded according to the courts determination of the best interest and welfare of the child.

Domestic Violence

Attempting to cause or intentionally causing bodily injury and/or placing someone in fear of “imminent serious bodily injury” by the threat of the use of force. A Domestic Violence action (often referred to as a “50B” action), may be filed after completing forms provided by your local Clerk of Court office.

I want to truly thank you and your wonderful staff for being so amazing to work with during a difficult time in my life. I was so confused and distraught, especially at the beginning. Your knowledge and experience helped me in understanding what my options were. You went out of your way and helped me to make the right choices for my daughter and myself. Anytime I had a question on any matter you were extremely helpful and took the time to make sure I completely understood and made everything as clear as possible. You answered all my questions promptly and were always there to talk to when I needed to. What could have been a difficult case you made smooth. You are not afraid to represent your client in the best way possible. Knowing that such an intelligent and capable attorney is hard at work to keep my rights protected has given me the greatest peace of mind. Your preparation and effectiveness as an attorney can only be described as exemplary. I can totally understand why my friend so highly recommended you.
